Off Topic or Trivial Posts

Sounds like a bizarre form of censorship to me - Kind of "No Soup for You!" for Hammock Forums!

Darn it, I know I posted a reply to this thread, but it's not here. Who hid it? The Soup Nazi!

Except it'll be the Off Topic or Trivial Police. Hide all of Shug's replies because there's a good chance he's just offering encouragement? Done.

Just because you start a thread or contribute to a thread doesn't mean you own the thread and can now mark others' contributions as off-topic or trivial. I don't think most folks have the time or inclination to do so.

It's Friday night and I have nothing to do. Why don't I browse the forums and mark others' posts as off-topic or trivial? Geez, where to start? There are 73,000 threads and 1,053,433 posts. It should take no time to clean this forum up!

And when I'm done marking others' posts as off-topic or trivial, and I can sit back, pop a bottle of champagne and make a toast to myself for all I've done to make it easier on the mobile phone users.

Of course, this is not any type of uber-censorship that you are thinking of.
It could still have your name, and just a button to click to show the hidden post.

I think that this would be perfect for Sticky Posts that get way off topic,
and unfortunately detract from the thread. This is not the same thing as a
Like button, and I'm not crying to mommy and daddy. I thought I was bringing
up an interesting idea in front of adults.

The moment that you all start responding not as adults, and start attempting to
bash me in passive aggressive manners, such as saying crying to mommy and daddy,
you personally are making this forum a less civilized place. It is okay to disagree,
this is just suggestions. Keep it civil, and act like an adult.

I knew the "You da man Shug" would bring the Shug-rats out of the woodwork,
I love it. Nothing like a uni-cycling juggler on the trail.

First off, you could read what I wrote... I suggested that it could be just
the OP, or perhaps the readers also. I never suggested that the power
only lie in the OP. But, that is an option.

I also do not suggest that we go back and through all of the posts.

But, should there be reasonable guidelines moving forward?
Perhaps not for normal posts, but what about the popular sticky
posts that we want everyone to read? I think the easier that we
make information for people to get, the better.

Is there by some chance you would have anything positive to add to HF as opposed to wanting so many changes? As for Shug, he is a great resource and has been more than a positive member of this forum.

I do see what you are saying, that as users we could choose the abbreviated view or the full view as our needs dictate. I respectfully submit to you that we probably don't want that option at all because we would not know what we were missing due to somebody else opinion of responses being on topic. Not to mention the extra work that would entail to be done properly. I come here to relax...

This is basically the same idea that you were proposing in the thread that you started yesterday....and in that thread you were told that it wasn't going to be implemented. And you kept pushing the point in that thread until it had to be shut down.

The vast majority of members that have posted here, including many longstanding ones that are well respected, have said that it's not a good idea and that it doesn't need changing.

It's time to take no for an answer. Further Feedback threads started by the OP about this will be removed.
