Brandon's video on basic tarp setup shows some options.

I wrap the cord around the tree then tie a taut-line hitch back on itself. allows easy tensioning and positioning. You can even tie it slipped and make untieing a breeze. It's a little more difficult to get it to hold if it's slipped though - at least using Z-Line.

i noticed with the under the tarp, i could never really get the tarp RL itself tight enough not to cause wrinkles.

on the other hammock with the 2 piece, i find it isnt *that* difficult to move it if needed but i get a nice, taught RL

i havent messed with over the tarp much simply because i use the tarp with the 2 piece RL more, and i do like that setup better personally. i think it may have to do with the tarp itself, ive seen some with a "U" shaped RL on them that need to be stretched to get the benefit of the "cat cut" and ive seen flat RL tarps that can be hung over. i think it may be up to your tarp and then personal preference really.

What exactly are the benefits of having a "cat cut" tarp?

Hi all! I use individual tie outs on each end of my superfly. Figure 9's make is super easy to hang it nice and tight. They also make it easy to adjust where my tarp is in relation to my hammock.

I use a CRL under the tarp (for better structure) and have yet to have water run under the tarp and drip on me.
I believe that any water (minimal at best) coming down the CRL will run down the tarp edge once the water meets where the CRL contacts the tarp. At least, that has been my observations so far.

Time for some testing. Any excuse to set up is a good excuse.

It reduces the chance of that annoying "flapping" fabric at the bottom of the tarp. More of the edge is pulled tight when anchoring your guy lines.
