Before you give up on the idea of a CRL, which I personally put above my Superfly, you might want to consider the convenience of being able to slide the tarp in either direction to cover your hammock without having to untie anything. Good luck!

I'm going to buy a Big Daddy tarp, and have settled on a CRL. My thought is to put prusicks at each end of the line with mini carabiners, which would allow me to adjust the total ridge length between trees. Then I will attach the tarp over the ridge line and quick attached with mini carabiners to prusicks that will allow the centering of the tarp on the ridge

Hey there Old C, yes.. after some thought on it, I figured Id put the ridgeline above it myself. Thanks for your input..... greatly appreciated...Chris
what knot do you use to tie them to your tarp?

For my tadpole I like my small and medium Figure 9 carabiners. If something ever happened to them I'd go with Dutch's stuff 'cause they're nice and so highly thought of and it supports a member here. As is is, I've had 'em for years and they work.
Hang the tarp loose so it's not in the dirt. snug one end to the desired coverage then go tighten up at the other end. Couldn't be a lot simpler, no slipping prussic.
On my 12x12 though, I use a CRL for support & hanging stinky socks and such on. This CRL does use a prussic too, but after it wore in a bit it no longer slipped on me. Zing-It is slippery at first.
what kind of knots should I use until I can get some Dutchware? I am thinking of just doing 2 12' sections off the ridgeline.

I have a full ridgeline, and I hang my tarp under it. There's a loop in the middle of the tarp, so I hook it up with a little 1" 'biner. The ends have prussiks attached to the ridgeline which I just connect with the same little 'biners.
I used to drape the tarp over the ridgeline, but I learned a lesson about the surface tension of water last June after a very rainy night in the Adirondack High Peaks
I like doing it this way because it's a 1,2,3,4 linear process. 1. The ridgeline goes up; 2. hang the tarp under and attach; 3. stake it out; 4. adjust guylines and prussiks on the ridgeline.
