    1. Forum Warrioring: People wanting thier score to be higher than the next guys even though there is no reward.
    2. Less personal: People being to just push a button instead of writing a few words, friendships aren't formed nearly as often as they are here.

Personally I wouldn't want to see either of these things happen here. This place is so awesome and special because of the personal connections built, even if just through a few words typed on a computer. After all you know more about me now than if I had just clicked a down vote button, and you now know the reason I would have clicked that button. Whether we agree or not on the final result, we can at least now understand where the other is coming from.

Right on, Right on. I know where you are coming from.

    There's the rub.
    Credit? Why? For what?

I know as well as anybody how this place is a type of social media, but you have to understand that was never its intent. HF was to be a repository of hammock wisdom. Along the way, folks became good friends and a small social community was in fact, born. But, our focus is still hammocks. We look for innovation and often those who innovate are credited by having their names or handles associated with the resulting product.

It doesn't take much reading to discover who the folks are that make good posts on a regular basis. The same is true of discovering who the trolls are on HF. Read posts and get to know people. Judge a person by "likes"...on the internet? Well, I can only say that it isn't the choice I'd make.

And EVERYBODY knows post count doesn't mean squat. As a matter of fact, I happen to be that poster-boy.
    Trust nobody!

This forum isn't broken,,nor does anything need fixin in my opinion. Leave it like it is. Its awesome and peeps here are too..How many have you met? And hung with? From associating with on the forum? And what have you learned so far? And it don't need any changes.

I agree with you that it could become less personal, BUT it could also
unclutter some of the threads as there are less wasteful posts that do
not add to the thread. I do think that some threads get way too long,
and are difficult to wade through the many pages. If you truly want to
pay tribute and thank someone, you can send them a private message.
Or at least ADD something to the thread, while commending them

As for Forum warrioring, this is what I thought it would stop, as forum
posts is the only "status symbol" here, and it can be inflated by these
afore mentioned "good post" single line posts. I'm sure people already
view themselves as superior because of their post number, and this is
    not a valid judging criteria.

There are people who deserve credit but do not have their name
associated with a product. There are people who contribute greatly
and will not get the attention of many as they should. Sadly, I am not
    one of these.

I thought of it just being a sort of "constructive" or "destructive" vote
for people's replies. Unfortunately, people only associate this with the
Facebook "like". The truth is, that there are many forums that utilize
this system much more efficiently than social media. It was social media
    that stole it from them.

I totally understand people's aversion to it, but if you've been on a forum
where they use these buttons correctly, you would understand why
I think it would help HF. That being said, I don't ever want to lose the
special place that this forum is. We have great moderators and members.

Starting a feature like this would help the moderators, unless there are
some things that I am not factoring in.

    Re: Forum +1s and Such

While I understand the desire to have such features in the forum, I am not sure that it would add anything to the already positive vibe that comes from this community. I agree with Cannibal that while a social media environment has been created, it simply was a by product of the general interest in hammocks that brought people together and that is the driving force behind Hammock Forums. The sense of community and friendship is great here, and while there is the occasional negative post, ie my way is better than yours, most posts seem to be positive and constructive in nature. I'm not necessarily against the idea, but don't see the need with the current structure. If you like my post tell me, if I need to be checked on something I said that is out of line, tell me. With that being said, not knocking the idea, just appreciate this forum and all the friendly folks here and want to see it stay that way. Thanks to all the members and especially the mods who create this wonderful (and sometimes crazy ) forum for us to enjoy

If nothing else, if you're desperate for likes and upvotes and thanks and such, there's always r/hammocks on Reddit.

Judge my post? Not hardly. Sometimes, like tonight for example, it's after 11:00 PM and a couple of bourbons after a long hard day and I'm supposed to be at my best in posting! Not hardly.

I could sure use one of them bourbons to get me through this last night of work on a way too long stretch.

I "+1" and "like" both of these posts ... and bourbon.
