    Sierra Madre Research's NUBE

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...y-sierra-madre

Sierra Madre Research is about to launch a new kickstarter project for their new hammock system. It looks pretty cool from the single photo I've seen. Hoping the kickstarter page (which launches in a few hours apparently) will have a video of it in action.

This is kinda cool. The gear storage idea. I hang my pack off the tree so I do not have to kneel. This looks like I will be kneeling and breaking my neck to look under.

Not seeing anything I'd be interested in although it is only one picture and no info. Looks like everything is sewn together. I guess the hammock just hangs in the tarp/bugnet bubble?

After watching the video I'm not cometely sold. It's basically just a giant dome that encompasses your hammock.

I like people pushing ideas such as this. I really like the gear storage area idea too.

    I like it

I like about the part where they talk about wind resistance. Normal tarp does not protect good enough when there is lots of wind, not even with doors.

The other great idea is that it differentiates hammock and bug net. One can use hammock during day for a seat. And protect only during night more easily than using separate tarp and bug netting. And also there is no bug net on your nose when lying in hammock.

But I do not have the money to invest. And on the other hand I like the view and with NUBE there seems to be none.

i got a SMr pares hammock for father's day and i've been waiting for the release of the nube' for quite some time to get an idea of what SMr has in terms of shelter. i saw the promotional video this morning and am impressed. the nube' is a rain tarp with integrated bug net and gear hammock all in one. kind of pricey, but if i got it as a christmas present, i'd be thrilled. i hope they get the funding needed to begin production.

if you don't know SMr's story, Richard Rhett is an outdoor enthusiast and engineer from my hometown, vicksburg, ms. a few years ago, he went to central america on a medical missions trip to treat locals for waterborne illnesses. they slept in hammocks while down there. he came home, designed some hammocks and started a company in nicaragua to provide decent paying jobs to skilled tailors and seamstresses. a portion of SMr's sales goes to dig drinking water wells in third world countries. i've known Richard's family for years and they are good people.

    check them out at http://sierramadreresearch.com/

i have no stake or interest in the company. i just want to get the word out about a local company owned by good people who provide a quality product.

Nifty idea, I don't think I would be lugging it around backpacking at a little over 2 pounds. I have never had a problem with rain and my hammock or gear getting wet, even in down pours. Anyway would be cool for some one to use car camping or for a base camp set up.
