    Claytor Camo Tarp Leak

I have a Mosquito Claytor Tarp which I really like and have used it now since dec 2010 , but only used it say 10 or 13 times. However it has begun letting water though even is light rain. I contacted Tom who replied quickly and who said:

'Heat and time can wear out the urethane. Get a can and spray some one.
    Cheers.'

Question is can this be done effectively? or should I just replace it.

    Any help appreciated.

Years ago,,on my older tents,,when they started to leak and I spent the time, resealing the seams and spraying them,,it just never lasted worth a darn, and they eventually with minimal usage, begin to leak again. I would think your better off to get a new tarp. You could make a thin mixture of silicone and try and paint brushing it on, but that will add a few oz's of weight to the tarp depending on how much you use. You can do a search on the forum for thining silicone out for that as I don't remember how the members were exactly thining it down. Good luck.

If I recall from a thread earlier today it was one tube of silicone to 2 quarts of mineral spirits I'll try to find the thread post.

First post here: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=76946 You could ask what brands would be a cheap way to see how well it will work for you.

    Claytor Cammo Tarp Leak

    Thanks guys,

I live in the UK where anglers use really big umbarellas to sit under. They are made of very similar material to this tarp. These are put up and taken down hundreds of times and never leak. Seems od that a tarp which is carefully packed and unpacked should loose its qualities so easily.Cannot help thinking the tarp should last much longer.

Its gonna rain again soon I think I am going to put it out and check again.

Im wondering if shipping it back to the manufacturer, and have it professionally done, would be cheaper than buying a new tarp. Kind of sad really if you think about it..... 150 dollars for a tarp that only is good for a dozen hangs

The tarp manufacturers do not apply the coating and will not have a way to recoat. It is done by the fabric manufacturer on large rolls of fabric and they also will not have a way to recoat a tarp.

    Tarp

Right we have had several large downpours - even thunder. I put it out in the garden. The tarp got a real good hammering. Guess what? it seems ok.
I cannot figure this out - my mistake no doubt, but must be somthing to do with condensation.
I thought at the time it could not be condensation because there was good air flow. And it has not happened before.
So weird - but am glad can keep using it
