    Underquilts and Wide Hammocks

I was wondering if I should make my UQ a bit wider than the norm because my hammocks are 65"+ in width...Any advice on this?

I'm not sure hammock width would be a reason to make a wider UQ.
Wider hammocks usually allows you to get more asym for a flatter lay/less calf ridge pressure.
I would make a UQ to fit my body.
    Wide shoulders = wider UQ.
Tall= Longer. A good 3/4 should easly cover shoulders to knees. A full should cover shoulders to feet.
Any more is just added weight and pack volume.

Gotcha. Wasnt sure if the increased angle on the diagonal lay would affect anything...Been using Reflectix & CCF pads up until now so this is still uncharted waters for me.

I can add that I have a wide UQ. I had StormCrow make me a short, wide Phoenix. It is 6" shorter than stock and one full baffle wider. It weighs the same as a stock Phoenix. The extra width is soooo nice and it wraps me well in any, even the widest hammock (65") that I have. No fiddle factor with it at all, all night being it is wider! Very happy with wider. Just sayin.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

I think the increased angle does affect the UQ's suspension.
UQ's don't like to be asym.
Get the suspension too tight and it won't move with you. A shoulder pops out or your feet don't get good coverage.
Too loose and you get air gaps (CBS).

Looking forward to reading about your project.

Glad you pointed that out. Think you just saved me headache of finding that out after I have completed the project and hanging it.

Completely agree. I'm in a place now where I have my most comfortable hammock ever (BIAS XL), but I'm still trying to get my underquilt dialed in to work with it. Just got some parts from Dutch and am going to do a completely new suspension setup and hoping that works. The diagonal is so pronounced that traditional underquilt rigging to the ridgeline is pretty ineffective.

Let us know what you come up with!
