Unhappy noobie question - bottom of hammock is tight?

Hi there, sorry if this is a really dumb question. I have a couple of tenth wonder hammocks - one is extra wide. I also have a cloth or cotton hammock that came with a free standing frame for the garden. My question is - the tenth wonder nylon hammocks appear to have a very tight kind of ridge in the bottom in line with where the suspension lines are. If i lay in it at an angle it's fine, no problem. Is this ridge in the bottom normal? am I hanging it wrongly? I am using paracord through the end hems as the suspension line. Wonder if it is somehow to tight. should it not "sag" in the middle when you sit in it and not feel like you are being given a wedgey? The cotton hammock has many ropes at each end on the cloth and go to form a tight loop that you hang it from - bit like a naval hammock I suppose. this hammock is great - it is more spread out at the ends and not gathered so does not seems to have this tight ridge in the bottom. Any suggestions welcome! Again sorry if this is a daft question.
    many thanks
    Paul

Far as I know the gathered ends usually have a ridge. Some more, some less. They are meant to be layed in on an angle. As a question for you, how tight are you hanging your hammock? It sounds to me like it may be too tight.

With a gathered end, the length of the hammock makes a difference in how much of a diagonal you can lie. Longer lengths being more comfortable

Make sure you have a 30 degree angle and add a ridge line to give you some consistent sag and you may consider whoopie slings because para cord will stretch

I've got a Tenth Wonder extra wide and stuck some whoopie slings and a ridgeline on it and it gives you the same lie every time as Mountnman says and it's a lot more comfortable than it was before.

Thanks for your reply Brady. The hammock stand is just over waist height (i'm 6' 1" tall).
it's fairly tight but not mega tight. the hammock is pretty much the full length of the stand and does allow much room for a lot of paracord.

That's the nature of gathered end hammocks. They are meant to be laid in on the diagonal and will always have the center ridge if laid in straight.
