Utility Constrictor Ropes (UCR)
Whoopie Slings
Thanks for doing this. Just finished my first set of UCR. Did them in Dynaglide. Tried out in backyard. Held well.
you forgot "none of the above". ;-)

I'm currently using paracord doubled and knotted to resemble a climbing sling, about 12' long finished. It works pretty well, actually. It stretches of course, but it'll do until I can get back home and get some amsteel. I'm 230 lbs and not a gram counter, so I suppose I'll use 1/8".
Thanks for the list. Currently using a SLS with whoopies at each end but looking to redo to UCR's on my return home.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
I used Whoopie slings for a few years. I have finally switched over to UCRs. I think my time with Whoopie slings has thought me a bit about the constricting splice. I've carried that info over to UCRS. The UCRs are now my new go to.
Okay, I'm totally doing this when I get Amsteel next week. The extra line use on whoopie slings has always bothered me.
As to the longer minimum length, my plan will be to tie my webbing straight to my continuous loops with a Becket hitch if I can't find trees far enough apart to accommodate the UCR. That ought to work, no?
Becket hitch backup would be perfect. I'm still using my ucr's, still love them.
One thing I found that made all the difference, on the prusik used to keep tension on the upper half of the bury, you need to splice a fixed eye instead of tying the prusik. I had to constantly tighten the knot because, you know amsteel and knots. Ever since I spliced the fixed eye, then wrapped the prusik, I haven't had a problem, nor have I ever had tie tighten up the prusik knot.
