“I think that when the lies are all told and forgot the truth will be there yet. It dont move about from place to place and it dont change from time to time. You cant corrupt it any more than you can salt salt.” - Cormac McCarthy
As a parent-to-be (November 14th, people!) I'd be curious to know what experiences other parents have with getting their kids into hammocks and off the ground, what hammocks and hammock-related gear has worked best (certainly you wouldn't want to throw a child into an Eno? Is size a factor?) and what gear has been met with less success, and suggestions from other parents about general hammock-related education for kids (Ultimate Hang is all well and good, especially with pictures...but I don't think it translates well to kids).
While hammock-related, maybe the Donating Member area would be the best place for this?
Edit: Perhaps a sub-forum akin to "Long distance travel with a hammock" would be a better fit under General Hammock Talk. It may not be the most used subforum, but certainly useful and certainly hammock related.

I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.
Great idea. I have 4 kids and all of them love to hang.
I have 3 little hangers but my concern is that good info might be lost to people without youngins (my same concern when it came to a woman's subforum). Also, there isn't a ton of stuff about kids so, I'm certain about the mods won't act unless there are enough kid threads to warrant a subforum.

I can kinda see that things may not necessarily be gender-specific, but much like the aforementioned "Long distance travel with a hammock" subforum it could contain good information but be more ideal for a more targeted audience (I'm sure the long distance crowd is far outnumbered by the short-to-no distance crowd).

Bring my little 8 year old camping/ small backpacking trips, i noticed i need to do different things to my te-wa underquilt to fit snug around him. the existing suspension didnt work as is so i used s-biners in a pinch over the ridge line. so a children thread would work great to discuss stuff like that.
I also see a lot of scouting threads on the forum, so some kind of general kids forum would be great to find all that info!

I think they are suggesting a place to be able to find/read kid related posts on the forum. If I want trip stuff I know where to go, cooking stuff, and so on. But to do kid/family related I would have to search through all the hammock general and the offtopic area too. Might be too much extra work to police for you guys, I work on another forum and know how it is, but I think that is what they are shooting for.
Where ever you go,
There you are.
My kids are grown (well, youngest is 15), but a topic I have seen on other boards is discussion about what activities are good for kids in camp and/or teaching techniques on the trail. Also, food for kids. Kids gear is another good topic. Songs and stories appropriate for kids. I'm sure there are more topics that a Kids section could cover.
EDIT: It might also be a place that the kids themselves could post up and parents would have less worry about language or exposure to adult issues. (Mods do a great job, but some topics are not for kids.)
The road to success is always under construction.

Echoing others, a one stop shop for kids related topics.
Of course, all topics related to hammocking with kids could fall under their respective sub forums that already exist.
However, having to weed through dozens of under insulation threads aimed at adult issues and questions to find an under insulation thread on the special circumstances of using UQs with kids, for example, is I think what would be trying to be avoided with a separate kids specific sub forum.
We have a 9 month old that's been out once this season and we plan to bring out as often as possible.
I'd appreciate a kids specific sub forum, but understand if it would be too cumbersome for the mods.
I like the idea of a kids forum. I have. 4 yo and a 6 yo. Have been ham mocking all their lives. Started one at 10 months and the other at 6 months.
