Gearing Up for 3/4 Down UQ

Had 2.4 ounces of down left over from the Marmot mod and just received (3) 1ounce bags of down from Wilderness Logics. I expect Argon cloth and shock cord from Dutch tomorrow and will begin the latest DIY project: using CatSplat's calculator I plan to build a sewn-through UQ, 40x52" rated at 41 degrees.

The puppy dog summer UQ works okay but weighs over a pound and does not resist wind very well. This downy one will probably weigh half that and sleep warmer.

Wow, this Argon cloth is amazing! Can't wait to get it laid out and cut.

My lack of a decent long straight edge is frustrating the layout of baffles on this project -- off to the lumber yard to get a piece of plastic trim.

A regular fabric marker doesn't work well on it either. Will swing by Wally's and see what might be better.

Laying out these projects, the most important step, wears me out!

Yes, a stable straight edge and decent marker makes it workable. Sewing is next.

I found a silver sharpie works well on 1.1 ripstop and doesn't show through...

Lots of folks have indicated that sewn-through is a pain, so use lots of pins...

-- waiting to see how this looks when you're done!

Yes, thanks, John -- sewn through seems simple but I can see, sitting here looking at it, how difficult it's going to be. I think you're right about using a lot of pins.

Hoping that I can leave the new DIY bug net and this UQ attached to the hammock -- then make a Bishop-type bag for quick and easy deployment.

I have a double-ended stuff sack that is WAY too big. Fits in the pack better, as it conforms to the shape of the pack. My TQ and DIY WBBB style hammock fit wonderfully...

Sorry to take so long getting this done -- the material is so nice that I don't want to mess it up. Now have both pieces marked and ready to pin up and then sew.

Spent most of this last week in the hammock, learning to deal with weather. Had nice rains here in Texas, the best in 2 years! Planning a trip to NM with family and will need this UQ so expect to get it done soon.

I am intrigued by this CatSplat calculator. Mind posting a link please?
