    Cheap Rain Tarp with Doors

Allow me to double down on this advice. Your tarp is the most important part of the entire kit, even more than the hammock.. It's what protects you from the elements, while the hammock is just a suspended bivy.

Don't skimp where it matters, and you'll save money in the long run.

Sound wisdom here! Ask those that know and then listen and do. I learned the hard way on getting what I had money for only to end up still wanting what I really wanted. I did not listen. But then I am a gear head so it's all good. The stuff I tried, I sold and upgraded to bigger and better eventually.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

I agree with this not only on this topic but most other areas as well.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.

What I have not seen is that you can probably find what you want in urethane coated poly or nylon at your price point. The penalty is weight. You move into the 2-3 lb range instead of 1-2 lbs. You also get a more rugged product.
    YMMV
