I really want to get my grand daughter out camping but want to start out at campsites with the bathrooms and assigned sites in Pa. Any problems I may run into, she is 8yrs old and will be sleeping in a tent for now.

When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.
Some states (like the People's Republik of Mexifornia) have begun prohibiting hammocks in campgrounds as they are "unsafe" so check before heading out. It's complete BS but whaddaya expect from the nanny states? Arrgggg.
You should be fine in Nat'l Park/Forest Campgrounds. Privately owned campgrounds will have their own rules. There's a thread here on HF called the "50 State Project", or something very close to that, that may have info on State Parks & Forests in PA with regard to hammocks.
Thanks Trail Runner I will look into that.

hey doc last time i was at quakerwoods for a family camp in quakertown i saw a whole campsite with about 6-7 hammocks in it so you might be able to there. i would try checking them out. not the best kept campsite but if ur like me and primarily stay on your pad and away from the rest of the people it isnt that bad and they were pretty good priced. plus this is where i got my first view of a camping hammock and bought one very soon after lol
Links to both the 50 State Project thread and table are in my signature. I have everything in the table except for maybe the last 4-5 posts.

Most campgrounds do not allow hammocks to be hung from their trees. The best way around that is to carry hammock stands, if at all possible. You really can't carry them for backpacking, but at a car site they are useful. You can usually find something in sporting good stores like Sports Authority or ****'s Sporting Goods. Target sometimes have them. Or, you can make them yourself, there are plenty of threads here on how to do so.
It is a bit of hike from philly, not to bad, but Ohiopyle State Forest out in western PA might be a good place for ya. I have been there a couple time to fish and stayed at the campground. Rangers had no issues with me hanging my hammock plus they have shower houses bathrooms and play grounds for the little ones. Its pretty cool out there. You can fish hike sight see I am sure your grand daughter would love all the water falls there as well. It is a good family place. Hope that helps.
We live a bit west of you, near Gettysburg, and have camped at Pine Grove Furnace, Caledonia and Codorus with no issues from anyone. Not sure how the folks would be out your way though. You might have luck calling that campground and asking them. This is all assuming you want to roll with State Parks. Hope that helps.
