    Which Traveler?

Looking to pick up my first hammock and have decided (I think) on the Traveler. I just can't decide which model. I am 5'11" - 6' and typically weight between 190 - 200lbs. I don't plan on splurging for a UQ so I will be using either a Z-rest or one of my inflatables.

With that in mind, do I need a 1.1 DL for the pad or a SL with an SPE?

If I should go with a SL, would I need a 1.7 SL due to weight?

    Which Traveler?

If your planning to use a pad I would go with the 1.1 DL. You can still use the SPE between layers if the added coverage is desired.

For weight, you'd be perfectly fine with either a DL 1.1 or a SL 1.7. The decision is really whether you want a SL or a DL.

It will be handier to slide a pad between the layers of a DL, but not strictly necessary. An SPE is a good item, but a second layer would be built-in and serve the same purpose.

My suggestion is that since this is your first hammock, go with the SL for overall simplicity and versatility. You can try a DL later, if you decide you'd like something a little different.

I have both the 1.1 DL and 1.7 SL traveler. Both excellent hammocks. For what ever reason I like the 1.1 DL better then the 1.7 SL. Just find it more comfy and less stretch. YMMV just my experience but you can't go wrong with anything Warbonnet
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

DL just for the ease of using a pad, I reckon... but then I'm a UQ guy, so what do I know?

South Carolina? I'd def. get the double layer, for the reasons listed above and considering you live in bug alley the DL has a bit more resistance to probosci intrusion into the flesh.
I've got and used both. Probably at least a hundred nights in them. There is a 'lay' difference between the SL and DL, for me the DL is just a bit more cozy/supportive.
Some say the Traveler has a bit of excess fabric, I hardly notice-too fast asleep once in it.

Double layer is what I'd get. Well, actually, it's what I got. I love it; it's more comfortable than my Blackbird to me, reasons I cannot understand.

Depends if you're going to use an underquilt or a pad. If you're going UQ you could get away with the SL. If you're going pad, DL is the way to go.
