bc9696...does it start out too low right from the get-go, from the first lie...or does it slowly get closer to the ground after some time of lying in it?

What kind of straps are you using. The nylon straps. (I may have this backwards) tends to stretch where the polyester straps don't stretch or very little. I once used ratchet tie down straps as extensions and they stretched a lot. The same thing that happens to you happened to me. Up high originally and stretched low during rest.

I've had this same problem, due to trees being too far apart usually, and not being able to reach up 8 1/2' or so to wrap the tree straps. In the west there are many times no other choices. I'm now using a Handy Hammock strut for one end of the hang - problem solved for 1 1/2 lbs. I usually car or boat camp. And I can put my hammock anywhere there is one tree or even one post!
I'm gonna look into that strut. My straps aren't the issue, I think tree distance is. Sometimes it's rock distance. <g>
Just watched a video on the Ultimate hang and that strut looks like a biach in windy coditions to erect! OMG!!!

I would highly suggest a ridgeline for your hammock.
Do you see any obvious flaws with this hang? Bear in mind I tried my best to center the hammock between the closest trees I could find but the 30 degree angle put my butt on the grass and this is the height I want...it is also the highest I can reach to place the tree straps. I think I want as much larger tarp too. Recommendations?
Arrggg! Can't get any photos to post, image is at http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps99091fd9.jpg
Two things.
1) You can put your tarp straps BELOW you hammock straps. That way your tarp will be level and tight, not dipping in the middle.
2) If you need to put your hammock straps up higher than you can reach, you can use something like your hiking pole to push them up higher.

Okay, good to know. My NX250 is hung w/o a ridgeline. Mistake? Also, I think I want a huge tarp that's more like this: http://smellycatproductions.com/wp-c...leepingBag.jpg
Any idea who makes it?
I don't recognize it. There are several Cottage vendors who make large tarps. I know that Under Ground Quilts makes some really nice 12' ridgeline tarps. They have ones with doors and you can even have them add a pole mod for more room underneath.
As far as a tarp ridgeline, some people use them. I think it often is personal preference and the kind of tarp. I have a Hennessy Hex and I just use the tie outs from the ends and it works fine.

Just posted an "I'll take it" on a great tarp on the classified board...it has doors! Wow.
