    Odd Thought...

===> Was sitting here thinking about a WBRR Bridge hammock, and I suddenly imagined running shock cord tie-outs straight out from the ends of the spreader bars for a bit more stabilization. They would give a good bit in each direction, but may provide a more solid hang.

Anyone ever try this with a bridge?

That is the way the Lawson is setup that I saw last week. It had tie outs at each corner. It wasn't shock cord, just thin cord. I laid in it to try it out. The tie outs definitely added stability. I think it would have been super tipsy without them.

Never had much of a tipping problem in my WBRR so far. I like the sway in the breeze too so having it moored to the ground would likely hold it still. That's no benefit for me.

The tighter you rig it, the more "tippy" it seems to be. Pulling it flat and banjo-string tight does make it more unstable. As long as you're hanging with somewhere near a 30 degree angle it feels pretty stable and also seems a little more comfortable to me.

I found other bridges that I have tried to be on the wiggly side...not necessarily tippy per say but not real stable feeling. I have not felt that way at all in the RR. To me it's very stable. I can change sides in the middle of the night and never feel like it moves any more than any gathered end.

====> Thanks for that, Paul! I think I will get one and see for myself. Can't have too many hammocks!

Just make sure that you are attaching to the poles and not the connection material. Otherwise you could pull the hammock away from the poles and have a rude awakening.

====> Now THAT is a good piece of advice, on a par with, "On the knot, not the toggle!"

    Thanks!

I thought I was going to need tie-outs on my DIY bridge but found it to be ever so stable.

I actually had to try to get it to sway for the sheer joy of swinging in it!

I also reached out and grabbed stuff on the mat below me to test how stable it was. It was more than stable enough!

The one thing I was concerned about with tie-outs was how often I would trip over them, so I'm really glad I don't feel the need for them.

Y'know, the RR sure doesn't look tippy when folks're using it.

Of course, one of 'em was Shug in a video where he's talking about how stable he feels in his bridge hammock...right after playing a mandolin on a rolla board! Kinda makes you think about what qualifies as "stable" for that man...

More seriously, a set of shock cord tie-outs would certainly reduce sway. I wouldn't count on 'em to make it more stable, though, unless they were cranked pretty tight. I found on my Hennessy that the shock cord gave enough under my weight that it really didn't stabilize the hammock much.

Anyway, just my thoughts on it.
