My mamajamba leaked on its maiden voyage. Is that normal?

Went on my first solo hike with my mamajamba tarp a few weeks ago. Had a huge thunderstorm and woke up to a small leak (just a steady drip) coming through one of the side pullouts of my brand new tarp.

Is it safe for me to assume this is a defect? What should I do about this?

I noticed when I bought mine that I needed to seem seal the side pull outs. If I held it up I could see daylight throught the stitch holes.

Interesting, good to know. How exactly do I seam seal the pullouts? Sounds like this is what I need to do.

Go by any Auto Parts store and get some Permatex Clear Flowable Silicon. It's easily the best option, since it's readily available, cheap, and applies nicely.

Then, just hang your tarp and spread the silicon thinly on the inside of your panel-ties with your finger. It only takes a thin coating. Leave it for a few hours to dry, and you'll be good to go.

Actually, i just had this question answered for me this morning! I heard from tons of people that it is important to seam seal the panel pulls, just not the ridgeline. And the stuff they all suggested to me was called Permatex Flowable Silicone, which is available at autozone for 4.99

The OP here won't have to seal his ridgeline, since the Mambajamba uses a folded and grosgrain bonded design.

Brandon does not seal the side pull outs on his tarps so its not a defect. As mentioned, the ridgeline does not need to be sealed as you may have already discovered after using it.

Umm... then the customer discovers leaks during his/her first rainy trip... is this an opportunity for improvement?
