I tried that in the store the lock is not very secure, I decide not to try it as I thought it might slide down with pressure. I did find another approach however. After looking at this page, http://meatfiregood.com/2012/09/06/s...-recipe-grill/ he has a bunch more pictures here. I am not sure how he opened his eye to get the others locked into it. I employed a shackle and a locking carabiner on one tripod. It worked really well. Way easy. Very few tools needed. I will be posting more details soon. However just so you know it happened here is the pic.

Nice work. I like this approach.

Here I welded the nut to the inside of the ridge-pole and the eyelet closed, just for fun (not necessary for safe operation):

As the place holders state, ""Sorry. This person moved or deleted this image."

The photos were hosted off site and the poster deleted them.

It didn't catch on...usually indicates it wasn't the best method.

Sounds similar to the way I built a tripod using old, bent, groundhog-style tent stakes, conduit and a split ring. Dont know if Id hang my hammock from it but it works great for cooking!

I build a hammock stand using these instructions...piece of cake with a vice to hold the loop so it can be pried open. I had to pound the end of the pipe to keep the nut from pulling out. I found that the pipes liked to sink into my yard but that kept it firmly in place anyway. Here are some construction pics:

This thread is old and not much activity but I thought I could still pass a little info on conduit ridge pole... I use 3/4" electrical conduit for my ridge pole. First, I have a WBBB XLC and I connect my hammock at a couple points that are around 12.5' apart... There is some deflection, but not alot. Second, I do split mine into a couple sections and it's much simpler than some of the earlier posts... Its electrical conduit, it's made to be threaded! You can thread it, or they will cut and thread it for free at home depot... You can do the same with the legs as well. Pic included, the sleeve that threads the two pieces together came with the conduit, one sleeve for each chunk of conduit. They can be purchased separately as well.
