Walmart drape sheers for bug net DIY

Has anyone tried making one of these bug nets in the link below? The price is right. The vertical dimension ends up being about 42 inches which seems a little short to me. If anyone has made one of these how well does it stay sealed? In other words, does it come unsealed due to the short vertical dimension? The video makes it seem like this idea works well. I bought two of the sheer panels so I'm committed to making something from the fabric, but I could make a Knotty detached bug net from the same material, so I gotta chose....

How much do the panels weigh? Durability looks good. I see this project in my future.

Looks like organza... stops ANY bug... I used that in an early kid hammock (ok 2), and my first zippered bugnet... Great stuff...

Mine works, structurally, like a champ. I do think it needs bug repellent treatment to be full proof.

There is a thread or two recently in the fabric section. I made one from the polyester window sheers and commented in this thread https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=72524 . Weight was just under 12 oz for mine

    Hope that helps
    Cheers

Thanks for the comments. It sounds as if my concerns about the 42 inch dimension and sealing up issues are valid. I was also concerned a little about not venting well. The fabric is very strong and the holes in it are very very small. knotty's detached net is super simple and much less sewing. Maybe I'll go with his design since this will be a one time use thing (probably)? I would rather just buy a net but the wait times for them were just long enough that I was afraid it would'nt arrive in time. The eno net would work for me but it weighs a whole pound...I guess that's not a whole lot more than 12 ounces for the DIY.

I use a short net on my hammy. It is very important to have a good seal on the bottom so make sure you don't make too large a hem for the shockcord. You don't want to make it too short.

I have seen this video and will probably make one for myself and a few others for the family. I think mine is a little short.

Good luck and post your project when done.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I have made a few of these. The Cricket/Fronkey style net weighs in at 9.2 oz. They work great on the bugs, but do not ventilate as well as noseeum. I would not recommend it for hot weather climates. Nights are cold here, especially in the mountains, so some extra warmth is good.

They fit tightly and your rear end can be left out in the open on a big hammock such as my BIAS. Used with an underquilt, it's not a problem. Simple to sew and the shock cord channels are already in place. I do like the color options because the lighter colors retain a lot less heat.

I have modified a design using them that works for me in the mountains where winds and rain can be an issue. Also doubles as a lazy slug type tube.
I'm ready to make a better one than this prototype. Will be using a barely breathable, water resistant 1.2 camo ripstop and a lighter color shear. Saw the new green color, but it was out of stock. May wait til then, because this one with the nylon taslan and a coating of Campmor works pretty well.
Unofficially titled the Storm Bug Net.

The complete rig with the hammock, suspension, 0* top quilt and 20* under quilt, under quilt protector and additional 6 ft long cover fit into a Granite Gear compression sack in XL size (30L). This fits into my 60L backpack with room for clothing, food & cook kit container.

    DIY sheer panel bug net

I made my son a Fronkey bug net out of sheer panel as you described.
He had no problems with heat, temps in mid to low 60's at night.
He had no problems with sealing. I put Velcro on each side of hammock for ridgeline.
The shock cord for the bottom opening was " sticky", he had a little trouble closing it, so I did a field mod, replaced shock cord with 1.7 lashit. Slick as owl......well you know.
He slept in it for 5 nights, no more problems and no bugs.
I have an eno guardian, works well, little heavy, but we basically car camp.

I just bought organza at Joann's , 2.29/yd. gonna try SGTRocks bug net next.
