    Question about whipping

Im using the whipping technique displayed in this video [skip to 2:28 to see the gathering and then whipping], but I have a question...

Does the length of the whipping matter? He says make a loop about 3" or so, but Im a big guy and while I know the whipping isnt supposed to be load wearing [right??] should I make mine longer?

I whipped one side already, and the measurement of the entire whipping comes to right at 2.5" Is this too short or does it matter? Im just trying to figure out before I whip the other end. I dont mind redoing one side, Id rather not have to redo both sides LOL

    Question about whipping

Good question that I don't have an answer for. I whipped mine with 12 wraps or so. So far I haven't had any issues with it slipping.

You've already used many more wraps then I ever have.

I use ~8 wraps for whipping and start it up against the end hem bulge which makes sure it can't slip.

No point wasting 2"-3" of your hammock length on each end.

You will be fine with what you have. I use the same whipping method and I only do about 2" and have never had any problems at all. I'm about 220 or so if that helps.

Thanks guys! Ill go ahead and whip the other side now LoL. Ill just be sure to take extra paracord with me the first time I hang it just in case I need to re-wrap, which hopefully I wont.

I usually go about 1.5 to 2x diameters for the length when I whip rope ends and sail bags. Bosum taught me that a long time ago.
