Looking into getting a Hammock, need recommendations

I'm new here so Hi all,

I'm starting to think about getting a hammock and was wondering if some of you could point me in the right direction. Basically I am a bit of a light-weight camping enthusiast, a minimalist if you will, into doing long hikes and cycle rides etc with minimal equipment. I have used bivy bags and bivy tents but am finding them a bit limited and frankly not as comfortable as I would like. So I am starting to think a Hammock might be the way to go.

I live in the UK, where it gets bloody wet sometimes, so that is a major consideration. I am guessing it's best to get a seperate rain tarp for this, if so can anyone recommend one of those as well? Lighter the better obviously however I want to find the right balance between lightness and comfort. Bugs don't tend to be a major problem where I am however a flynet might be nice to keep off some of that morning dew.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ian

1.1 single layer Warbonnet Blackbird and an OES Micro Maccat in Spinntex. Top shelf all the way around and lightweight too!

For what you're looking for, I second everything Cannibal pointed out.

If you're a bit weighty yourself, maybe go for the 1.9 single layer, or 1.1 double layer Blackbird. OES IS the place to go for premium quality tarps - and they've got a wide range to choose from, and I believe they do custom work as well.

Just seen a vid on Youtube of the Blackbird, looks very good indeed, might be just what I'm after! I'm not very heavy at all, about 140 pounds. Those Tarps look good too.

    Thanks guys!

As a follow-up, with regards to the Blackbird, would you recommend using a pad or an underquilt for insulation?

    Thanks,

    Ian

What is the temperature range you expect to be hanging in??? You may need both pad and/or Vapor Barrier and the UQ. BB is still a good bet.

I want to try using it year-round ultimately, I will obviously try experimenting and see what works. I guess right now I am thinking about the coming spring and summer when I hope to begin Hammocking.
