    Hammock stuff sack

Can anyone give me a good recommendation for a good size stuff sack for a 11 foot DIY hammock? The BIAS stuff sacks are a good size but I don't have one to measure.

What material did you use? Single or double layer? I have found the easiest way to measure for a stuff sack it to put the item in a plastic bag (like a grocery sack) and compress all of the air out and crunch it down as tight as you can. Then take a tape measure and measure it around top to bottom and then around the middle. Add seam allowances and that gives you your two dimensions. Of course you will half the around-the-middle number for a single end stuff sack or half your top-to-bottom number for a double ended.

Single layer, 1.9 oz ripstop. I've made stuff sacks before with a method similar to what you suggest and it hasn't worked well for me. Mine always end up too big or too small. Thanks for your help junebugdawn. BTW, I've been to Greenwood many times ... nice place!

I know what you mean. I have often made them too big or too small myself. For yours, I would think the size of a DN ENO sack would be about right. I have one if you would like me to measure it for you.
My first hammock was a 1.9 SL. I have the sack I made for it, but I can't really remember how tightly it fit. If I had to guess off the top of my head, I'd think something around 8"x10" would be a good size if you are making just a single end sack.

It is always cool to hear of people who have been to Greenwood. Especially, since no one just passes though here! You pretty much have to be going TO Greenwood if you have ever been here. We have lived here almost 18 years. I really like it...very nice town. Not too big, not too small. Very diverse area and everyone gets along pretty well.

I tend to always make mine too big. I like them being loose and squishy so easily conform to the empty space in my pack.

I agree with dragon, I like my stuff sacks a little large, the ones I made for my quilts are the same way. Keeps things organized and lets them conform to fill packs space better.

Thanks everyone for the help. I was at Walmart yesterday and they have a 3 pack of ditty bags made by Outdoor Products of various sizes in the camping section and it cost a little less than 5 bucks. The quality looks adequate considering the cost. The large one in the pack is about the right size...I may try it. Check them out if you need a couple of stuff sacks.

So tonight I bought the Outdoor products three pack of ditty bags for $4.97. I would describe them as slightly weird since they are as wide as they are long. The smallest of the three is a little big for my single layer DIY 11 foot 1.9 oz/yd hammock. It will probably be too small for the hammock plus suspension. Anyhow they are probably worth $4.97 but the quality is only adequate and the sizes are odd. FYI. Probably wouldn't buy again.

I use my Warbonnet BB double ended stuff sack as a guide. I have made several this past week using a green 1.0 Ripstop nlyon and a 1.9 camo ripstop

18" x 17" rough layout. Ends up being a bit off in size from a BB stuff sack as I can not sew my seams as small (narrow) as Warbonnet can. Then again I am happy if I can just sew a semi straight line.

The green sack was made with some left over fabric that was smaller than the 18x17 rough I normally do.

Some one recently posted some pictures of some hammock stuff sacks he made with exterior storage pockets which I plan to copy on the next sack I made. My only concern is how well it works in keeping stakes from poking holes in the stuff sack and or hammock in the sack.
