Adventures With Snide Tripod
Really want to do this. I'm about to order from quest, but I really don't want to buy the grommet tool just to use it once. I really like the dog bones for this, but I haven't ventured into splicing & no materials avail to even try. Guess I can tie bowlines into some zing-it, or something close enough...
I'm in a similar boat. Will likely buy the poles from Quest and find another way to attach them to the tarp. Otherwise I've been considering doing the Wilderness Logics Kit (http://www.wildernesslogics.com/TARP...OD-KIT-TPM.htm). It's just more expensive.
From my experience, I have found that making dogbones is not hard. There are many YouTube videos out there that take you step by step. I know you can find zingit online through many sources. Dutch sells it as well. The trick to making dogbones is getting the right length. I made mine about 8 inches. On one end I made a one inch loop and the other end the loop was just big enough to barely slip over the pole end. I would just slide the smaller loop through the lashing tabs on the tarp and through the larger loop making kind of a larks head. If I need the poles to be shorter, I just slide the larger loop up and over the end of the pole, thus leaving both loops hooked on the end. When I go to store the tarp, I just leave the dogbones attached to the tabs.
Any recommendations for which line to use for splicing guy lines (or in this case for the tent poles) for beginners? You mentioned Zing-it, what size?
I used the 1.75 mm yellow zingit. I got some dutchware that works well with that size.
Any worry of the nock of the arrows snapping due to lateral force? Certainly not what they're designed for. If it's windy, I'm guessing they could see a good bit of pressure.
