Karo-Quilt Baffle Material

I'm beginning to rough out the design for my underquilt and topquilts. Because of the unconventional nature of my hammock design, most of this is having to come from "the usual place" . I read here a while back about Karo-style baffles, and I think they may work best for my application (since I'm basically flying blind, and the Karo-style at least allows for some on-the-fly adjustability of down-placement)

Has anyone who's done these interrupted-style baffles used a material other than noseeum for the baffles? Since the down is not contained in chambers, but merely positioned by the baffles, it would seem that the shell material could also be used for the baffles. This (for me) would save cost since my floorplan leaves some waste fabric I could reuse, and the shell material is often lighter than the no-see-um netting, as well. I also wouldn't have to order more nanoseeum after making my bugnet, which used all of it

The shell, as you mentioned, would work.

Tulle is too fragile.

There is a "tougher" tulle (I don't know it's true name) at Wally World around here that would work.

People generally use something different from the shell to save a bit of weight.

There's no problem using the same material for both baffles and shells, especially in a Karo step quilt.

Personally, I don't like the Karo quilts for the underquilt. I think it's too hard to get a differential cut in those to prevent compression of the down.

Is Tulle too fragile for the baffles? I thought this was now being used widely with the DIYers? The reason I asked is that I just spent a beer and a couple of hours last night cutting Tulle for a TQ and UQ, but if it's too fragile maybe I should use no-seeum netting?
I was planning to use the sil/mineral spirits to pre-glue to the outershell first to keep the needle holes down (using 850 fill). Anyadvise would be helpful. Thx, Al
