I will be taking an Amtrak into Carbondale and then back out of Carbondale.
Bus from Carbondale to Harrisburg and Shuttle to High Knob Campground
from JoJo at High Knob who will also take me to Elizabethtown

Any suggestions will be gladly accepted.

    Must see
    Good Town Stops
    Great Food Stops
    Best Camping areas

    etc....................................

My plan is to hammock camp all the way. and do some geocaching

I want to take my time and sight see / geocache
that is why 12-14 days for the 160+miles

My proposed camping areas will be

I haven't hiked it (yet), but I have heard water is an issue. Are you keeping an online journal? I would be interested in following your hike.

Sorry, no advice to give, but interested since it is not far from home in Iowa. A post after the trip would be nice. And here's a bump!

I have hiked from the Garden of the Gods to a private horse camp near Lusk Creek. Yes, water was an issue near One Horse Gap. Take every opportunity for water once west of Herod. There is a small lake just south east of One Horse Gap. It was difficult to get to the edge of the water, I used a bucket/rope combo. If you go thru Lusk Creek, navigation can be a little confusing so use good maps. Horse/Hiking trails are terrible, sections that had muck/mud enough to pull your boots off.

Duffy / Gravitino: YES I will post a Trail Journal for the trip I will send you a link and also post a link here

Wolverine : I plan on carrying my 3L Camel Back and 2 32 oz Naglene Bottles for water
It will be heavy but with the warmer weather I can cut down on some equipment weight
plan on simple meals to conserve water also

I have the river to river GPX file on my GPS and also will be purchasing the R T R trail guide I hope that will help

I have walked small portions of it before and have been doing a lot of research so I hope that is enough
Remember you are only Lost when you don't know where you are

I hope I can stay in Illinois so I will know where I am

I don't remember the websites, but there are some great downloadable maps. I used these and took them to Office Depot and had them professionally enlarged. This was a great help in getting details. In my opinion, One Horse Gap was a awesome place.

I look forward to reading about your trip. It is relatively close to home, so I may try out some of the trails if you report good things about them.
