    Problems with USPS

    Mountaingoat here.
Over the last five weeks, three orders have been lost in the mail. This is the first time in three years, and it concerns me.
I ship relatively inexpensive items and have replaced the lost ones for free. I include shipping in the price, and it usually runs just over 2 dollars, but there is no tracking with First Class shipping.
Has anyone else experienced this lately?
I am not sure how to proceed....replacing lost items for free can only work for so long, but I am willing to do it. I am more concerned with keeping my customers happy and I work hard at having a good reputation.
Any thoughts on this? I would really appreciate your input!
    Thanks, Katharina

I was having items I ship get damaged and have since resorted to insuring everything.

The insured mail receipt number acts as a tracking number.

Strange as I just had a member contact me who did not get an item I sold. It shows up as mis sent. I sell a bunch on ebay and hardly have problems. I don't know why the trouble seems just recent. Maybe due to the tracking/del conf. comes with the ship price now. That is the only difference I have seen in the process.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Donna here...When a First Class shipping label is printed with a PayPal payment...it has a tracking number. Do your customers pay via PayPal?

It looks like you can either insure it or track it for a bit more:

    https://www.usps.com/ship/insurance-...-services.htm?

It would seem to me it would be worth it to the customer to pay for one or the other.
    YMMV

    Lost Mail

We ship everything via USPS and around 30 packages per week. It goes in streaks. We had a rash a few months back. We use the tracking feature to follow lost packages and to let our customers track where items are at. When items are lost we replace them for free as it is not the customer's fault.

If it continues you can contact the local postmaster to investigate the issue which does seem to help end the "rash" of problems.

    Good luck and happy shipping!

Thanks everyone. I really hope this won't continue or get worse. I have been trying to keep shipping costs low, but I be looking into the Paypal shipping labels.
Now onto making the items that never made it to destination..

You can actually get a retail shipping specialist to come to you and go over what works for you. They are supposed to find the cheapest way to get what you need done. I am not sure if it can be done by you but I know I have a card at work that I can fill out with your info if you want them to get in touch with you.
    Where ever you go,
    There you are.

since my son lost his i pad in the mail last November,
I am ALWAYS now getting the tracking for an extra buck, even for PIFs.
USPS used to be more dependable.
