Hammock Storage Solution-TQ, Gear & CPAP

Almost half way into my 30 days in the lab experiment, I have started making a number of changes to my setup.

The lab of course being the backyard and the 30 days is spending 30 days/nights outdoors as a way to checkout, shakedown my gear under various weather conditions.

Nothing is worse than being outdoors with incomplete or inadequate gear in adverse weather conditions. Something I learned more than 35 years ago with the South Jersey Outdoor Club while taking the survival course with my brother and dad.

So, hammock, tarp, underquilt, topquilt and in my case, a CPAP,(a simple device that has dramatically improved the quality of my life) all deployed and in use for a couple weeks.

Sleeping outdoors and where possible, using a terminal emulator on my iPad to access PC's or Server to do my work, allowing for work from the hammock.

One of several issues encountered, storing the TQ (in my case an unzipped mummy bag), pillow, hat, jacket, CPAP, CPAP gear (mask, hose, power cord), CPAP battery and lantern during the day so I could lounge out while working.

Up until recently I had all the CPAP stuff setup on a small table outside the hammock and left the other gear in the hammock, unstuffed and generally in the way.

This is when I decided to try something different. And if this has been covered before, as I'm sure it has, just haven't noticed it in my many months of lurking, apologies in advance.

The thought was, essentially a peak pack. A stuff sack somehow attached to the peak of the hammock at the ridgeline similar to what I've seen done by various cottage vendors when modifying HH's.

So I ran some of my leftover 550 through the loop on the ridgeline in one of Brandon's wonderful creations, threaded my sleeping bag storage sack cord and secured it with a cord lock.

Now I can load the storage sack, cinch it tight and then draw it up to the peak, out of the way and secure it with a cord lock.

Threading 550 through ridgeline loop on a wbbb

Stuff sack cord secured by cord lock

    Loading the stuff sack

Cinching up the stuff sack to the peak cord

Drawing storage sack up to peak and securing with cord lock

Tucked up and out of the way

    Hi Rat-
My setup is similar to yours, especially the cpap on a small folding table next to my hammock. If I read your post right and you are looking to leave your stuff setup but partly secured during the day, a lazy slug tube might be what you want. It is like a giant snake skin for your hammock and can enclose nearly everything. You don't have to take anything down or remove your tq or uq..

Obviously if I used a compression sack instead of the storage sack, I could free up more room.

So the on to the other end to create a way to both use and store the CPAP and all of it's stuff in the hammock with using up the entire ridgeline and starting to feel claustrophobic with all the stuff hanging above me.

Same method with a minor change.

This time two sacks, one net sack for the CPAP machine itselft and a waterproof sack for the battery, cords, mask, etc. (also stores CPAP machine in inclement weather, protect from water damage)

The idea being, hang the CPAP in the net stuff sack near the peak and stash the battery (heavy) on the shelf without stressing the shelf, stictching or net.

So another 550 line threaded through the loop at the end of the ridgeline, stuff sack cord secure by cord lock, a second cord lock secures one end of the battery bag while an S biner clips it to the ridgeline and a second S biner holds the other end connecting the battery bag to the ridgeline and limiting how far it can slide into the shelf. Can also be adjusted to suspend completely from ridgeline and moved to the foot end.

CPAP stashed at peak and battery bag on shelf but suspended from ridgeline at either end of bag.

    Battery bag suspended

Prussik holding S biner to maintain tension on battery bag, prevent stress on edges of shelf/netting

The battery is a lithium ion job and only had to be charged 1x in 9 days.
I keep it for power outages and camping.

Pricey, weighs a few pounds (3-4) but worth every penny.

Yeah, i was eyeballing that option as well as an elephant trunk? May need to go that route during camping trips in state campgrounds. Not so keen on leaving everything out but kind of a hassle to move stuff every time we take a day hike or whatever.

The second dog, third pic, is that a Shiba Inu?

Always wanted one, heard they're very smart dogs.
