This Reflectix stuff, isn't it kind of loud to sleep on? Noise like that would keep me awake.

I've used it many times and have never noticed a crinkle - nothing more noticeable than the sound of moving over nylon. You may be thinking about the mylar emergency blankets which are noisy.

I have used a somewhat crumpled space blanket between my hammock and UQ when I had a cold spot and didn't feel like making adjustments in the middle of the night. Just stuffed the space blanket into the cold area (which was a big dead air space between the hammock and UQ) and was toasty the rest of the night. No noise. No condensation but I only had the space blanket under part of my torso.

I always keep a SB handy for this type of situation. Only used it twice in 6 or 8 years but it was nice to have.

I velcroed a space blanket to the inside of my homemade synthetic sleeping bag UQ. Gave me an extra 7 to 10 degrees of warmth. The UQ seals and provides nice dead air. No condensation issues with temps in the 20s and 30s.

It's worked well in the Sierras in the very low 40's. Never had a cold night in my down bag and warm gear. The blanket does an excellent job of reflecting my body heat and Thermorest Pro provides an air space to keep me from sweating. The sleeping pad works great because it widens the hammock slightly and come in handy when we're above timber line and can't find any tie points.
i tried one of these space blankets...it was aluminized polyester. A thin flexible sheet of shiny, crinkly stuff. I put it right under my down bag with the non -SPE SP under it. It got down to 37 degrees and was windy that night. It did not work as advertised. I had to make sure I stayed on the pad to stay warm. Anytime I got off the pad, I was cold and the blanket was huge...big enough to fill the whole hammock, so I knew it was under me. I also clipped it to the edges so it wouldn't slide around.
I don't understand, it was reflecting back my body heat when I was walking around with it wrapped around me, wearing normal clothing, why didn't it work with the sleeping bag?
O well, back to the drawing board.

Were you in the sleeping bag or using it as a quilt?

Mrprez, I was in the sleeping bag. Are you telling me if i use the bag as a top quilt, and sleep directly on the space blanket, it will work?

I can't say for certain but it might. The reflective material can only work when it has body heat to reflect. If you are in the bag, it is holding in your body heat. I would give it a try and see what happens. Now, don't go running off to the North Pole to test this!
