    Talking Whoopie sling sizes

Just wondering what size guys are making/ordering their woopies. I've been making mine out of 12ft of amsteel with a 10 in long fixed loop attached to the hammock, a 10 in fixed channel, 1 in gap, then a 10 in adjustable channel that forms my loop hanging on my marlin spike. The adjustable loop goes from about 4.5 ft to about an inch. Does this line up with what other guys are doing? does anyone like them longer, shorter, bigger or smaller channels. What are peoples' preferences and why?

I make mine 6' completed. The loop size depends what I'm doing with it. If I'm using Dutch hooks and connecting to the hamock via a continuous loop, I do 8" circumfierence fixed loops for getting over the MS Hitch. If I'm making one el cheepo and connecting it to the hammock directly with a Lark's Head Hitch. I make a 2" circumference fixed loop to get the whoopie through.

Either way, normal buries on the locked brummel and on the whoopie bury.

I find 6' gives me a good adjustability when coupled with decent length tree straps. The whoopies have never not been long enough. If anything, I occasionally need them shorter. ...that's when the tree straps and dogbones are great.

I was searching for the same question - I find the whoopies I have on three of my hammocks to be a little long. I think I started with 13' of amsteel, dont recall.

Love to see a like to refresh my memory on the tutorial and good size to make.

If you wanted to, you could make your buries shorter so you have a shorter minimum suspension distance. The manufacturers spec suggest something around 6 inches for the fixed eye bury and around 8 inches (can't remeber exactly) for the adjustable bury for 7/64 amsteel. If your fixed eye is only going around a gathered, you could probably shorten that as well. If however it works for you then that's cool.

I think mine is about 6ft. This spread sheet is wonderful for messing with your numbers before you start.

I don't recall if mine are 7 or 8 feet fully extended...and I can't measure real easy as they are on a Hennessy so I lost about a foot with the attachment. But I think my goal was to have 7 feet to play with...I would rather have too much than too little when I get out in the woods.
