I've used mine indoors for probably about 30 days and outdoors for about 15. Still look like new. I do always feel nervous about anyone else being in the hammock with them though, thinking someone might grab them to pull them back towards the head end or kick the foot end in accident. I think the standard poles would take this abuse a lot better.

I'd be curious to know what Brandon at Warbonnet thinks of these.

My guess is if he is aware of them, that it's not something he could offer at a cost effective price.

I'm more wondering if he'd advise against using them.

Would these carbon spreader bars be stronger than the stock set the RR comes with

People get these because they're lighter, not stronger. There was at least one report of the carbon fiber bars breaking, but it's been long enough now that a revised version may not be so fragile. [One alternative is to use hiking poles instead, saving the weight of the spreader bars. Not sure if they're stronger or not.]

Do you need a special brand of hiking poles to go that route?

I use Mountainsmith hiking poles, which fit fine without any modification. I carry both the hammock poles and walking poles to use with my tarp in porch mode.

Does anyone with carbon spreaders have shortened amsteel (not sure what the technical name for the two ropes that make the other 2 sides of the triangle on the suspension) pieces on their hammock?
