caddisman - that really depends how wide you set it up to be.

Generally the farther the legs are from each other on one tripod, the sturdier that tripod will be (and less prone to tipping) but it's possible to set it up with a much smaller footprint too.

The main thing that will determine whether it will fit in your room is really the length of the crossbar, because you want to make sure that it will be long enough to hold your hammock at the proper angles.

What is limiting the spread at ground level? The hinge or some limiting straps/cords?

In the case of a turtledog stand, I would imagine the limiter to be the cuts at the top - i.e. what angle you cut them at. The closer to 45* you cut it, the wider the legs stand, and vice versa.
When I made my previous comment I was probably (because I actually have one of these) thinking along the lines of the original turtlelady stand, where it's lashed at the top and thus has more flexibility in footprint.

Although going back and looking at his pictures, I don't see cuts at the top. So in this case he's (hopefully) added straps of some kind!

    My TurtleDog Stand

Just an FYI, when you start going over 15' or so. I think you will notice considerable bow in the top bar. It was enough that I didn't try it with all my 280 lbs. HYOH

Like many other people said, very well documented instructions. Great job! And welcome to the forum.

Just finished up with this project. Considering several options for limiting the spread of the legs. It was around $70 tax included from HD. I used some stainless in my hardware and went with treated 2x2s. Length is cut to 6'6" and it needs to come down to 6' for a perfect 18" above ground level. Easier for the wife to get in and out of it.

I have not noticed any flexing of the fence top rail I'm using but it is only two pieces cut at 6' and 3.5'. I needed my anchor points at exactly 100".

Works surprisingly well and I'm sold on this design. Perfect for the beach also!

I am intrigued with joining top rail sections using the connector piece shown a few posts back in this thread. I have a WBBB and have tripods lashed up using both army surplus mast sections ( fiberglass ) as well as telescopic aluminum tent poles ( heavy duty military surplus ) BUT I have been stressing over how to do a ridgepole for my turtledog'ish tripods. I pull a small trailer behind my motorcycle and only have a 48" area to stow everything.
Anyone tried two connectors on a ridgepole? I'd like to use 3 four ft sections for a 12ft ridgepole.

Where I'm going there's no trees. I'm a big guy and don't want to tangle with gravity.

I used 4 sections of army surplus camouflage poles no problem each less than 48 inches
