Permethrin on a hammock?

I picked up a bottle of Permethrin at our REI Members garage sale today. It was reduced 66% because the bottle didn't have a sprayer! Anyway, I seem to remember reading once that in addition to using it to treat clothes, you could use it on a hammock to prevent the wee beasties from having a "southside" feast. Is this true? If so any thing to be cautious of? Seems pretty easy, just set up hammock, spray, and let dry a few hours.

Several of the members around here use it on everything including hammock and tarp. It seems to work for them. I'm jumping on the permethrin bandwagon this season too.

Spray it outdoors, and let it dry outdoors. Don't breath the stuff. Don't let cats, birds, or fish near it until it's dry. Permethrin works great.

After it dries it is okay to sleep against it right? I am assuming so because you put it on clothes but wanted to be sure before I did it.

Correct. Once it's dry, you are good to go.

It works very well, it worked well enough a few years ago in the Okefenokee Swamp a few years ago I didn't get bit once that I can remember. Spray the entire hammock, net and all. Any spots you miss will be where the skeeters will land and bite you through the fabric.

Don't forget to treat the mosquito net. The mosquies are more likely to lite on the net. Bwahahahaha!

I treat the straps too just to get the little buggers who dare even try to walk down to get me. My hammock is surrounded by the many wee bodies of the foolish every morning.

Well, not really, but I haven't got bit either.

I thought the point of the net was to keep them out, so it just slows them down?

No, they can't get through it, but when you have fifty mosquitos sitting on the net, breathing your exhaled carbon dioxide, and emitting that "Pelosi-like" whine, it gets kinda old.
