    4-6 Person Stand for Scouts

I am searching for ideas to create a multi person stand.
My sons and 5 of his scout buddies want to use their hammocks.
The problems is that some of the camping areas do not have acceptable trees within close proximity of the troop campsite.
When it was just my son and maybe one other boy (and they were considerably smaller and lighter), they would occasionally use the pipe supports that make up the troop shelter/tent. The problem with the pipe shelter is that it belongs to the whole troop and any damage would be felt by all. Another reason is that the pipe is thin wall and slip fitted together making each joint suseptible to jamming.
Any ideas that dont involve heavy wall drill stem pipe, or 1200lbs of 4x4x10s

I am also very interested in ideas here. I would be looking for something for 2-3 hammock hangers in cub scouts. The amount of brain power in this forum never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure there will be idea flowing shortly

If you have the means to construct and transport it, a scout troop on the East Coast of Canada build a geodesic dome to hang 10 hammocks from.

I recall Hennessy Hammocks showing a hammock city at a scout jamboree. They were using some special pipe connectors that laid the hammocks out in an ever expanding series of hexagons.

I think this is the thread in question on that.

Not sure of the exact mechanics but what about the concept of a circular stand composed of several U-shaped pipes that are bound together at one end. Each U- shaped pipe holds a hammock. I suppose one circular tarp over the entire thing would make it a hammock yurt! I can imagine 6-8 hammock U's forming the circle. Just a thought.

    I appreciate the reply's.
Most of my research ends at the following.
    1. Small individual stands seem to win out over multi person stand.
    2. Most multi person stands defeat the keep it simple/light rule

I do like the idea of modifying or beefing-up a pipe tent/shelter/canopy.
Take down the hammocks during the day/evening and it becomes the kitchen & dining hall.

Here is the link for a 3 person stand. Not too complicated, and portable. A little thinking, and you may be able to expand on the idea......RR

I'd suggest turtle lady bamboo stands: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=27777

It looks like Walmart has bamboo but this might be a source for the longer piece needed for each one: http://bamboosupply.net/listman/exec...takespoles.htm

I would start here and then contact Hennessy for more info on the stands themselves. I don't see that they sell them but they could probably steer you in the right directions. They do a lot of stuff with scouts.

I like the one version that had what looks like a buried telephone pole with 8 hammocks suspended from it, all with individual posts staked out at the far end. It reminded me of a "wheel of hammocks" sort of thing.
