Agfadoc...I wondered about drainage on the shelf. I thought you might wrap the tripods like a tipi for waterproof storage.

G...Hawk...use the common tripod for the foot end of both hammocks as the head end tends to carry more weight. I would caution you to inspect the bolts before/after each hang (should be doing that anyway). I don't think you'll have any problems, but it's the bolts I'd watch.

I've been planning the chair idea as well. Not sure how big the cloth is supposed to be though.

I've thought about the chair as well but have not tried it. It appears to me that there is not enough "lean" to the tripod legs to suspend the chair from the central point of the tripod. Suspending the chair from the "back" leg would side load it somewhat. It may not be enough force to cause any problems, but that side loading is what I would keep an eye on.

As to size...this (not really recommended) hiking pole version is 54"x40" and with an added foot end through channel might be a good place to start. too much rain today for me to try it out.

Agfadoc, congradulations on another fantastic evolution of the Turtlelady stand. Like the compactness of the package for travel. When traveling with my TD it has to go in the bed of the truck due to length. Even at the weight you stated it's probably lighter than the TD also, never weighed mine.

Ordered soime poles today and excited to give this a try. I posted in another thread asking if installing the snaps was self explanatory? I can't seem to visualize from the photo on Grainger's site how they will install.

Scratch that - got a repsonse. Apparently they are essentially a V shaped spring. Makes perfect sense now.

I think the spread would be fine, and with the tensioners in place, I think it would work. I have a spare fiberglass pole that I was going to use on the bottom, and now that Gmcttr mentioned it, a cover for the shelves would be pretty cool.

I would want it to have it's own Amsteel over one of the other poles, but hey, since we are getting all comfortable, and if it can stay on the poles like the shelves, then why not?

It all goes in my car and I won't be humping it around so why not get extravagant?

Make sure you drill them all the same, using a jig like Gmcttr used in the Turtle lady bamboo thread:
