    Mosquitos in Florida

My wife and I will be leaving soon to spend the month of March in Venice, (gulf side) Florida. I plan to do some hanging while I'm there, and I'm wondering if the mosquito population is substantial enough that time of year to warrant my taking my bug net with. Would any of you who live in this area be kind enough to share knowledge with me on this point? Thanks!

    Mosquitos in Florida

You may need your bugnet in January.
Nothing dies here, except the people. Bugs, snakes, poison ivy thrives. Bring the net. If you happen to get lucky and hit a cool weekend, leave it in the pack: but always bring it and always soak your clothing in permethrin.

I'm two states north of FL and had two mosquitoes land on my arm while lying in my hammock one warmer afternoon in January!

After most of 4 adult decades outdoors in Floridia, there are few times when you won't need the bugproofing. A double-layer hammock is great to keep the skeeters off your butt and all, and I still always had good cooling in summer. Just flip the net over the off-side of the hammock if you don't need it. Permethrin (sp.) is a must for me, too. Besides the skeeters, there's ticks and chiggers, which are less than fun.

The earlier poster is right: the critters don't die off or go dormant in the winter, they just take an occasional nap!
