Are you an 83% ridge line type of hanger?

I understand that the starting point for a Structural Ridge Line is 83% of the OAL of the stretched out hammock...How many of you use different formulas? Why?

My formula is to adjust the hammock until it is most comfortable and then make an SRL to that length. It generally ends up close to 83%.

I tend to use it as a template - a starting point and work to what's comfortable from there.

As said above, comfort is the key. On my WBBB I have the original length. I use about a 90% length on the ENO DN that I sleep in most nights in the basement.

    I'm 6'5" which also makes a difference I think.

Same here, I measure the over all length, make a whoopie sling RL, that is centered at the 83%, then go hang it and lay down, make a few adjustments, depending on how it feels, sometimes going short, other long, until it feels right.....RR

The 83% is the midpoint of my adjustable ridge line. I can go either way with it as circumstances dictate. I also tend to keep a lot of sag in my hammock. Consequently, there's a lot of play available with it.

    Never measured it.
I tend to chuck an adjustable on and eye ball it.
Try it and make adjustments from there.

Here is my take on the subject for what it's worth... The primary purpose for the ridge line is two fold, the first being to assure the same sag every hang. The second being for supporting things overhead such as an organizer, bug net or other fabric. The length of the ridge line depends on several variables such as hammock length, hammock width and personal comfort. I have found that most people are satisfied with a ridge line length that is 10 to 14 inches shorter than the hammock length. This link to the "Hammock Hang Calculator" may also be of interest to you. Hope that helps.
    Happy Hanging!
