    Hey from Jersey

I an an ASM with a BSA Troop and we are looking to get into hiking and backpacking. I figure hammocks will be the way to go so I am trying to get as much info as I can to see what is best for the boys. There are a lot to choose from and I don't want them to be spending a fortune. I have already contacted a few manufacturers and they offer BSA discounts which is nice. Also looking for a store/place/troop in NJ where we can try some of these out.

For me personally I think I will go with the WBBB, from everything I am reading it seems to fit my needs the best. I am going to be getting one for my wife and both kids for kayaking and backpacking trips as well as Scout trips. I definately think it is time to leave the ground.

Welcome from SC from another ASM a few of our scouts have switched to hammocks for hiking but mostly its the adults that really enjoy hammocks. Kids can sleep anywhere.

Welcome from a fellow Scouter in Denver!

Tough to go wrong with a Warbonnet BB for you. Dream Hammocks are also really nice.

For the scouts - I definitely recommend the DIY route. Keeps costs low and lets them have some fun with it. I'm working on a project now where we're able to make a very professional hammock for each scout for just under $15 (for the hammock - tarp purchased separately). PM if you want any details. I plan to post about the experience in the next month as we finish it up.

Hey there, I am from Howell too! I am right off of Aldrich Road, near Juanitos and Taco Bell.

You say you might go with a WBBB, well I happen to have a WBBB and if you would like to try it out before you make the plunge I would be more than happy to meet you somewhere.
