    Trust Your Dog

I've never heard a bear, but I am familiar with the odd sounds deer make, and it could have been a deer. However, your dog is probably a better indicator of what it may or may not have been.

If your dog is spooked enough to back-up against you for protection, either yours or theirs, take it seriously. Dogs are great indicators for things we can't see or hear, that includes types of animals and types of people.

When it doubt, trust your pup.

The call of a lonely sasquatch... I think I'd prefer a bear.

Wow that is almost exactly what i heard, but ive never heard any reports of bears in this part of missouri. The conservation dept. denied the presence of mountain lions for years until someone shot one,so i guess there is a chance.

That's it, "There's a Squatch in them thar woods"

Do you have elk in your area? We don't have any here, but I have watched a lot on TV, and they can make some really loud noises. .....RR

We never had bears here, now they are seen quite regularly. 5 years ago we didn't even have a bear hunting season, and now we do. My son shot one 2 years ago, but I have never seen one, personally, while in the woods, either hiking or hunting........RR

I will admit that its been a long time since my blood ran cold like that in the woods. My dog is a little boston terrier that was a walk in. She kept looking into the dark in one direction for most of the rest of the night. Its pretty exciting to think that we have a bear in the area.

Whatever it was, did the mountain lion call set it off? Will you make that call again without remembering that reply? I don't think I would. Sounds of the wild can be eerie at times, and I remember some from long ago.
