    Question suitable hammock suspension cordage?

I don't know if this has already been answered. Browsing thru all of the posts to find an answer can be daunting with so many threads and posts lol. I've got a clark vertex hammock on the way and I'm not a huge fan of knots. I had a look at the method of suspension and it looks like one of the most convoluted out there, knot wise, because all three lines are in sets of two rather thick ropes. That means two knots or one giant one on each tree. Blegh . I just want to know if there is a rope type strong enough to replace what comes on the vertex and use it with the biner and two rappel ring method. So far I've gleaned that paracord is a no no. Any suggestions?

Amsteel Blue is what's commonly used here, for strength-to-weight ratio and non-stretch properties. DIY Gear Supply sells it, as does Arrowhead Equipment (I'm sure there are others who do, as well).

    Hope it helps!

Try Amsteel, the smallest diameter 7/64" is all you need. Or there's a smaller yet brighter option called Dynaglide.
Since they are hollow cored rope, they can be easily spliced, sort of like a chinese finger trap, using tension to hold your weight instead of knots.
    These might help...

Just as FLRider says, and also polyester 1'' straps can be used. I ditched the ropes on my clark even though several here love the clark ropes. Hope you enjoy your new hammock.

WHOA !!! While Amsteel Blue has the strength, it is a very poor choice for the "two rappel ring method" and Dynaglide would be an even poorer choice.

To use the stated method, you need to use a heavier rope, possibly of kernmantle construction or better yet, use 1" polyester webbing.

Ach...misread it. Thought the question was for the continuous loop to hold the rings in place. Yeah, Amsteel is a poor choice for running through a pair of rings. Holding the rings in place? Sure. Compressing it between them? Not such an hot idea.

Strapping is a much better thing to run between a pair of rings, for sure; it takes compression much better than Amsteel. Both vendors I linked above sell hammock-rated polyester (no-stretch) straps for that use.

    Sorry for the initial misinformation.

Its OK maybe I wasn't the clearest. I've seen it mostly done with hennessy hammocks. Taking a carabiner and hooking it to your tree straps with two rappel rings hanging on the biner. Passing the rope through both rings, then thru one and down in-between the two. Its easy to tension bc when you pull on the rope without being in the hammock its easy topull tight but it wont loosen because the rope gets sup
    er pinched inbetween the rings.

If you use the rappel rings, be sure to tie a half hitch in the rope/webbing after making your adjustments. I ignored this advice until I sat down, heard a loud pop and hit the ground (and yes...it hurt more than my pride).
