I've got a friend with a cabin on the Withlacoochee River. She brought her kayak to our trail maintenance yesterday in the hopes of paddling to it because the road is flooded. She ended up getting a ride from an air boat guy that'd been hired by the sheriff's office. She said they boated up her road and measured about 5' over the road. The cabin is on stilts and the water is 1 1/2' from the floor.

When we camped out there late last year I walked down to the river. I'd say it's about 30' of steps to get down to the water. So it's come up that high plus some to almost reach her cabin.

Insane amount of water! Looks like today the water is at 71' by her place.

FL>Mayo>March 7-11>Upper Suwanee River Wilderness Trail

Hi folks. I just read that the sewage treatment plant in Valdosta, GA flooded releasing a significant amount raw sewage into the Withalacoochee / Suwannee River system. Take plenty of soap and wash your hands often!

    Postponed

After some consultation amongst those of us who planned to do this trip, it has been decided to postpone this trip until the water comes down. The flood is expected to crest this weekend in the section we planned to paddle. High water, fast current, floating debris, sewage discharge, etc do not make for a relaxing weekend trip.

Stayed tuned for additional info when we decide on the makeup date.

I think that's a wise decision. What a crappy situation.

I want this trip to be one we will remember as a fun & enjoyable weekend filled with exploration and photo opportunities with good food and fellowship with great friends. But with the river doing this it would be arduous and exhausting. I agreed that postponing to a better weekend is our best option...and smart!
Thank You Detail Man & Andy for keeping an eye on the situation and saving us from who knows what!

I paddled from Big shoals to to white springs in 2004, river was 17 feet higher than it is right now not one of my best decisions. I did get some great pictures of some of our FT bridges underwater, wish I new how to post pictures. The Withalacoochee does flood before the upper Suwannee.
