pegs and frozen ground?

what do you use to anchor your tarp in frozen ground? tried aluminum gutter spikes but they bent.

i have snow anchors but not enough snow to use them.

I've had good success with the MSR Groundhog stakes. I've only had one break on me, and I think perhaps that was because it went from very warm to extremely cold all at once, maybe an anomaly. I have not had trouble since then getting them in or out of frozen ground.

We used long nails from the hardware store at the Wisconsin hang earlier this month....they worked great! Not sure what the actual name of them are. Hopefully CryOTheWild will chime in

You can get galvanized steel spikes that are 5" ish. Can be pounder into frozen ground with a hammer or hatchet with out bending.

+1 on Ground Hogs - or the newer mini Ground Hogs. Both penetrate and hold extremely well in the crazy rocky soil here in Colorado. I use a combination of those and the new MSR carbon core stakes.

I cut gutter spikes in half and resharpen them, they work fine in soft ground, are plenty long enough for frozen ground, less likely to bend and only weigh like 7gms. Oh and cheap! I loaned one to a friend over the weekend who had just snapped a ti v stake in half driving it in frozen ground.
