I have been debating on hammocks trying to decide between hennessey and WBBB. Then debating if its WBBB if SL or DL is best. I like the mattress pad insulation thought. Wondering if DL is the only way to go with Mattress pad in WBBB?? Any thoughts before I get my first real hammock???
If you are going to use a pad, get a DL. It stays put better.

If you're strongly considering a pad, definitely go DL. It'll make using it much easier and less frustrating. The main argument for a SL is the lighter weight when backpacking. If those extra few ounces for the DL aren't a concern, definitely go that route.

I have two WBBBs, both 1.1 dbls, and a Hennessey Exped. My biased recommendation would be the WBBB double layer. I have used a pad between the layers with great success, and for me it is just more comfortable, with a much flatter lay. No regrets at all!

i have the 1.7 double, its a bit heavier but, it gives you the option for better pad retention, a flatter lay than a single, and in my opinion a little more durable. i no longer use a pad (ive switched to u.q.) but i still like the option if i ever need to use it.
+1 on the double layer. I have two, a 1.1 and a 1.7. It just gives you more options. Ask around where you live and see if there are any Blackbird owners near you or visit a hang somewhere nearby. That would give you a chance to see different versions before you make a commitment. IMHO You can't go wrong with a double layer unless you are a true gram weenie. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Well, it looks like the masses have spoken. DL wins out over SL... Now the final decision will be hh VS WB. But ill post on another forum thread.
Wallyworld makes a waffle patterned blue foam pad that is about 24+ inches wide and works very well in a BB double.
