I began this mod thinking that it would be easy. It is! Unfortunately, I can not find a plastic grommet to save me life! At least two of the stores I visited had customer service reps look at me in wonder, asking what a "grommet" was. Sigh.

I guess I will just have to wait to finish this one. Here's to hoping I do not lose my bag in the process!

Walmart and hobby lobby have them... you need to go to the sewing section not arts and crafts in walmart

That is a great mod. Easy for anyone to do, cheap and useful.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

I decided to drive about an hour to Hobby Lobby. I figured I could visit a friend and hit a trail (maybe Geocache) while there. Fun times!

I too have done this mod a few days ago and it is great! So much easier and quicker to set up and take down. I could not find a plastic grommet anywhere close so i bar tacked the bottom seam and melted a hole through the interior strap. The excess material from the seam helps grip and "lock" the amsteel suspension from falling out through the hole. I seem to prefer this method as now i do not have a hard piece on the bag, just a secure hole through it.

This looks like an interesting mod. Definitely once I get a hold of some amsteel to replace the included ropes/carabiners with whoopie slings I'll have to think about doing this. Do you think that there would be enough room to leave the Guardian bug net on my ENO DN and still fit it into the stuff sack? That would certainly make it quicker/easier to deploy the hammock and bug net. I think that I'd prefer a brass grommet though, what would people think about something like this:

I used a brass grommet on my DN and haven't had any problems. The thickness of the webbing seems to hide any rough edges that might exist.

However, I doubt you can get the guardian net in there as well -- I have one and it's almost the same size as my DN. I use a DIY Hug-style net, and it's all I can do to cram it in there with the DN.

This does look like it would speed up the setup process, awesome idea.
