The safety pin works, but each time you need to adjust it, you'll have to take and re-insert the pin. With the knot, it gets adjusted all in one motion. Plus, no chance of the pin coming undone in your pack and poking through other gear, or getting bent up getting shoved in the pack.
Nice pictures, it is nice to have variety. The safety pin is a simple solution.
You can use different knots too, the taunt line hitch would work as well.

    A few Questions

I'll be using a Dutch hook which connects to a fixed eye coming out of the end of my HH.

The other end, goes is Larks headed onto a tree strap.

I use Titanium Dutch Clips on my setup. So, I wrap the strap, deploy the hammock, and wrap the other strap, & adjust the slings. Very fast and simple set up that I got from watching a Sgt Rock video.

Does it matter which end I put the Dutch hook on the UCR?

It seems from some of the video's I've seen, the UCR has gone both ways.

Then you could, when your making the first fixed eye on the short piece, you could run the hook on the cord, and instead of a 2" eye, you could pull it tight like here...

Then on the fixed eye on the long end, you could either make it 1-2", just what is needed it larks head it. Or what I like to do is, mimmick the photo above with the loop on your tree hugger like I did with the whoopie hook.

If you left fixed eyes on all four ends of the cord, as ibgary did, then yes it can be used forward or backwards. If you splice it like I did with the tension knot and with a backsplice on the tail of the long end, then it's directional, but obvious.

Thanks. That's looks great. Has that nice professional finish to it. I had watched Sgt Rocks latest video last week. It's getting to the point, where the hammock is a fast, and professional looking setup, which bypasses almost all tent setups.

Awesome tutorial! Thanks for making it!

I had read about Dutch's adjustable UCR ridgelines, but couldn't figure out how to make one. I'm definitely going to make one using your instructions for the new DIY hammock I just started making.

Awesome tutorial I haven't messed with UCR's in a long time. This thread has treated my interest again. I will do believe I'm going to give them another look see.

Was able to get some time to try a set of these this weekend with amsteel. Has some difficulties at the start with the given numbers since amsteel is much thicker and simply seems to take more room with its looser weave. The long piece was simple and easy enough. the short end was more difficult. Started with 24" to accomodate for a longer bury but that left me with no tail to backsplice let alone prussik. Made some continuous loops (not sure for what yet) and moved to 30" for each short piece. 2" eyes and 5" eye bury with an 8.5" for the main bury. Left me room to prussik and backsplice. Haven't used them yet and time will tell if I prefer but it was a great tutorial and fun to follow. Thanks again.

Will be trying soon enough once I get my hands on some dynaglide.
