I think the people who say this must have multiple guy lines on the side of their tarps, and not just two. For me a snake skin would be no better than ties because I'd have to remove it completely to get to my guy lines anyway. Even if you did have multiple on each side you could move the tie up one at a time, only letting out as much as you need.

Not trying to talk anyone out of snakeskins, I just don't really see how they're different, or why I'd need that much fabric. If I already had them, and wasn't worried about weight, I'd use them because they look cooler and slide easier but I don't see myself spending money to get a heavier solution just because it saves me a few seconds when sliding the hair ties.

As always, HYOH. Mine happens to be a cheap hang.

I use both ... I like the Speed Sack to put a wet tarp into .. I like the uniformity of compactness that Snake Skins give .. I like the control I have when deploying my tarp in high winds and rain { I have pockets to stow the guy lines } .. I like Snake Skins for keeping the tarp furled .. I like Snake Skins for pushing all the air out when stowing .. I like functionality over shaving a few grams or pinching a pennies ..

to the OP.. I would suggest snake skins for that 70D .. love the shape of that tarp .. and that it'll take a beating ..pitch taunt as you could ask for .. hate the weight and bulk of it ..

    Not a problem.

That's why I use Velcro ties instead. A year of hanging (~30-50 nights) and still going strong. I linked above, but here's the link again, for Lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_319820-388-9...cro&facetInfo=

Someone had figured out you can use the bath sponges/scrubby thingys as snake skins. They cost a dollar. One sponge is all you need. Cut the rope and it's a 10' tube. It's very fragile, but for a dollar, it works great. I have mine doubled up to beef it up a little.

Ok they cost $1.69 but this does work. I did this and have a single 12' snakeskin for my HH Hex Tarp. It's not as tight as a real one but I'm going to use it for now.

This is the method I'm going with plus a double sided stuff sack.
