    Review: Handy Hammock stand!

Here's my Initial Report of the Handy Hammock stand. First impression - this is a well-executed design that fills an empty niche in the hammock market...a lightweight, low-bulk hammock stand. Not quite the ticket for ultralight backpacking, but very suitable for lots of places where you'd like to take a stand but never could. (And still plenty light for regular backpacking!)

Nice initial report, thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to the next phase of testing/report. The questions you listed (comfort, using the stand with a tarp, using the stand with other hammocks) are the same questions I have about the hammock.

Thanks for the initial report, Jeff. Looking forward to your updates. Particularly, how does an 11' gathered end hammock fit?

They have a pic of a HH with MacCat on the website so I expect it to at least work. I'll try it with the Blackbird and RidgeRunner, and the MacCat Standard and JRB 10x11 tarp. The only issue I expect would be how low I hang to the ground...especially with a long tarp. I think I have an 11' DIY hammock somewhere around here - I'll hook it up if I can find it.

    Updated with first setup! http://www.tothewoods.net/GearTestHandyHammock.html

It's just complicated enough that I had to use the instructions, but I should be able to set it up a second time without using them. It felt very stable, though I'd like to be able to adjust the sag easier. I guess that'll come with experience.

Next up in the testing queue will be trying Warbonnet Blackbird, HH Backpacker and Warbonnet RidgeRunner. I'll throw a tarp on it, too, and try to test it on different soils.

Very nice. I am also interested in how it will do with the 11' hammock. I do alot of camping with the scouts, and most of the camporees are in fields, so no trees to hang from. I like the initial looks of the stand, (just not the price). Hopefully the reviews will be great. ......RR

Great review Jeff; thanks for posting.

I also had the opportunity to test the Handy Hammock and I put on the BIAS Micro and Hennessy Hammock on the stand and they fit just fine. Photos and review here:

I like how it works so far, and I think it would work well for a boy scout campout like that. Just depends on how it would work with that length of hammock.
