Yeah it was the short. Thinking back I really wanted to buy it, but I don't think I would get much use out it anyways.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

with the REI member sale coming up this weekend I will be buying the DAM 7 regular length pad using the 20% off coupon. That brings it down to 112.00 plus tax and no shipping charges. If anyone knows a cheaper price let me know

The Exped DAM 7 that replaced the one that popped a valve (as seen in the beginning of this thread) had begun to develop another problem.
A seam/weld that forms the channels had begun to separate, allowing two chambers to become one.
At first it was just on seam & only 10" or so at the foot end. Then the seam beside it started doing the same thing.
Then one seam separated all the way from one end to the other.

I took it back to my local outfitter & he called & talked to Exped.
They sent me a new DAM! Cool!!!

They told the outfitter that they had been working on making improvements in materials & construction methods over the last couple years & hopefully this one will be problem free.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Tim, you are tough on your air mats. Just kidding of course. I don't know the answer but would guess there are some impressive forces put on air mats.

The reason I commented is I hear of failures from time to time that are obviously related to how much stress air mats endure and the challenges that puts on manufacturing, particularly internal baffles. Then I think about this new NeoAir mat that Thermarest is coming out with that is very light weight and has several magnitudes more internal baffles (and the seams that go with that). It will be curious how that plays out and what advancements in just the manufacturing they have come up with. Thermarest has been making foam filled air mats for decades, but I don't think they had internal baffles to deal with and they have jumped into internal baffles with both feet, elbows, and every other body part.

I agree Dave... I am rough on my air mats<G> And yeah, using an air mat in a hammock may be tougher on the baffles because of the way it is stretched in a slight curve rather than laying flat.
And I'll be curious to see how well the new thermarest air mat holds up too. If it can stand the stress, it may not be a bad deal.
