Hmmm... I'll have to get to work designing a field expedient, packable, ultra light version of an automatic hammock rocker like they used in that experiment.

I am thinking something that would strap to a tree with an arm that would lay against your suspension. This would oscillate back and forth causing the swinging motion. Wouldn't take much effort to get the right effect.

    It's called wind

Or just the mere fact that every time you move a millimeter you end up rockin' the hammock
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.

Also wouldn't take much for something to go wrong and pulverize you into a tomato enchilada!

    Hmmm...

Sounds like we need to make a combo ridge line organizer / sail to capture the breeze for a Wind Harnessing Optimal, Oscillating Bi-directional Utility Device for Dirt-dweller envY.

If you're not using mosquito netting, just tie a length of light line between your ridge line and canteen, then toss the canteen out four or five feet to the side. A gentle tug on the line can start you rocking. If you're thirsty, just haul in the canteen, take a swig, and then toss the canteen back.
