I was in the Navy also. Sometimes back then I think I could sleep standing up. Problem for me is, I have moderate to severe Restless Legs Syndrome. Unlike some people who have this, I have zero nights where I do not suffer with this, and it has steadily gotten worse since way back when I was a teenager. Some nights it is so bad that it's not just in my legs but in my hips and arms. It also doesn't help that I am a night owl and always have been. I have this hope however that after a hard day of hiking with a heavy pack I will sleep like a log in my hammock.

How much does the hammock help the restless leg syndrome for you?

Glad I'm not the only one!

I usually use a pillow for between the knees and then under the knees when I switch to my back. I also like hammocks which let me switch between laying on either diagonal.

However I'm not using the leg pillow as much lately. One factor may be that having to tend to the pillow is yet another distraction as I attempt sleep.

A few times in the yard I have used the same pillow for between my knees that I use in my bed. But I bought this camping one for more packability.http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Hiking...amp-pillow.jsp
I find it works good if I am on my back, the little sticky things help, and also its big enough for me to be comfy with it between my knees. In the hammock I can sleep without it there, but i am more comfortable with it...

like others here I am a back sleeper in my Hammock and a side sleeper in bed.
I use a fleece coat or jumper for a pillow, stuffed into the bag my quilt is kept in.
I dont know what it is about hammocks but once I am in and sorted I seem to sleep instantly and dont appear to move till morning

    Late entry...
Lots of have been prescribed to use a knee pillow after knee replacement. It really makes a difference.
I sleep somewhere between my left side and my back. I have a comfortable spot.

I don't use a pillow between my knees in a Hammock. However, since I had some surgery last spring I have used a pillow between my knees while side sleeping in a bed. I think the curvature of the hammock mitigates the desire for the pillow in a hammock to keep my bony knees from knocking together.

If you wanna be UL I would just use what you have at the time instead of carrying an extra pillow

Also Check out the bridge hammock option if you’re a side sleeper.
