    Sand Rock Alabama [VIDEO]

A group of us went to Sand Rock Alabama over the past weekend to do some camping and climbing. We had heard that if you could get over the graffiti, broken beer bottles and trash then it was actually a good place to climb. As it turns out it was a really cool area. As I understand it, they are attempting to turn it into a state park so it was cleaned up pretty well (still some graffiti, as you will see, and construction going on). The views at Sand Rock were awesome. The rock is all sandstone pinnacles and there are hallways and easy top outs all over the place - its a neat place to explore if any of you are in the area.

Here's a short (a little over 3 minutes) video I compiled of the weekend. Remember to watch in HD. I hope you enjoy.

    Here's the link to it:

And here's an attempt at embedding it...

Great video. I always wondered what those pads were for in the catalogs now i know.

Was that Lake Guntersville in the distance?

I'm not really sure. That was my first time there and I'm not familiar with the area.

Great video. I'm amazed at the ability to climb up some of those rocks when you're having to reach back over your head to grab the wall. I'd have to lose a lot of weight to be able to have the strength to do that.

    Hotty toddy!

That was too much fun I reckon)))))) Spidey Skills.
Loved the POV leaves in slo. Also the free-climing impresses me always.
What a way to enjoy the woods.

Alright Cordova TN! My parents are in Germantown. I work weekends at the climbing wall at Lifetime Fitness in Collierville if you are familiar with the place. We could get you started on those big reach back moves there!

Hey Shug I appreciate it man. And I appreciate you giving me bundles of information through your videos back when I was getting started with my Hammock. Keep doing what you're doing.

WOW that brought back some memories. I drove down there and found the place back in 75 from Chattanooga. From the looks of that parking area things have vastly changed. When I was there I followed an old dirt road that went through a couple standing puddles that were fairly deep and there was more trash than I saw in your videos.

I top roped and solo climbed about a dozen rocks with a chest harness, hand tied seat harness and a Jumar ascendar tied between them as a self arrest. Used my day pack to give some weight to the bottom of the rope ... it worked! Got to do what you got to do when you don't have a climbing partner!

Only made two trips so it was nice to see your video ... thanks for sharing.

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

Haha no kidding? Sounds like a primitive rope soloing set up. Very inventive! I imagine in a few years when construction is done and the place is maintained that it will be a really nice place to visit. I'm glad you enjoyed.
